The original KING OF THE KYBER RIFLES was set during World War I. It was a fantasy adventure story inspired by two novels by H. Rider Haggard: SHE (1886) and KING SOLOMON’S MINES (1885). The original Capt King was an officer of British Intelligence. He was chasing German or Turkish enemy agents stirring up rebellion against the British Raj when he blundered into a lost palace in the mountains, piles of diamonds, the perfectly preserved bodies of a Roman general and his lover, and a beautiful Indian queen who rules a horde of savage tribesmen.
